Silver Tail Systems provides two software solutions to protect e-commerce websites, online financial institutions, Web 2.0 websites and any site that gives access to finances or personal information.  The first product is Silver Tail Forensics.  This tool performs two important functions.  First, it alerts website owners to changes in behavior on their website.  By proactively monitoring for changes in how a website is used, Silver Tail Forensics provides zero-hour notification for possibly fraudulent activity. 

Second, Silver Tail Forensics provides an investigation interface that allows the website owner to understand the behavior on their website.  Traditionally, website owners have had to cull through weblogs – piecing together the logs that contain the information of interest – to determine how their site is being attacked. Silver Tail Forensics gives the website owner a point-and-click interface for investigating actions on their website to determine where bad behavior may be happening.

The second product is Silver Tail Mitigation. This rules engine allows the website owner to make changes to the business logic flows of the website to mitigate bad behavior in real-time without impacting legitimate users. For example, consider the case where Silver Tail Forensics has notified the website owner that there is possible email address scraping on the website. The website owner can then construct a rule in Silver Tail Mitigation that serves a CAPTCHA – to confirm that activity is not robotic – in the case that it appears that an email address is being scraped. The CAPTCHA is served in real-time when email address scraping is detected and legitimate users are not impacted. Other rules and protection methods are available to respond accordingly and adjust page flows.
